about

It’s a pretty positive wee fella! It’s exploring who you are in this life and it’s a message to myself that I will get to where I want to be eventually. The lyrics focus on the fact that I never dream (or remember my dreams anyway) when I sleep, which I’m guessing is pretty unusual; however, I think I do all my dreaming whilst I’m awake. I am pretty fascinated about where your soul, thoughts and feelings go (“amongst the wreckage of a pile of planes”?) and how your body can just switch off like it does. It parallels with the being lost and the mystery of not know where you’re going to end up in the future. This isn’t necessarily a bad thing I guess.

It was inevitable that this was going to be the first single, especially after Gav recorded that relic of a bass line for the verse. I particularly enjoy Andrew’s guitar tone and the riff he came up with for the chorus. Recording the drums for this one was the most fun too. I wanted to find the right balance between this song having depth and emotion to it as well as it being able to sail on subtle quirkiness and hypnotic Casio gems.

lyrics

Where do you go, go when you sleep?
I can't remember my last dream
...and I'm marooned in this phase where I can't sleep
in amongst the wreckage of a pile of planes

But I'll discover the world where I rightfully belong
I'll look for something that does not even exist
and I'll do whatever it takes to be inspired again

If I could sleepwalk while I'm wide awake
my legs could carry my soul where they wish to take
and if I had a net
I would be able to capture those forgotten dreams and live inside

But I'll discover the world where I rightfully belong
I'll look for something that does not even exist
and I'll do whatever it takes to be inspired again

But I'll discover the place where I truly belong
I'll do whatever it takes to get it done
and I'll remember the dream where I knew I'd travel to
