about

This probably comes across as a bit wimpy… It’s about being left behind by people you trusted and that you shouldn’t rely on following another person to help you advance in your life because peoples own outlooks and agendas can suddenly change overnight. It’s about coming to reality with staying true to who are and focusing on your own achievements. This is the only song where I had a real attachment to the original demo I had recorded. I caught a certain mood and spent forever crafting all the right instrumentation, so I was worried about not catching the same vibe for the re-recording. Fact is, the quality of recording was pretty rubbish. So, it was a case of finding all of the same or closest tones but without making the track sound forced and emotionless. My respect goes to Andrew and Gav, who came over especially to record my Technics organ for this one. The reason for this is that a) the organ is way too chubby to transport and b) it just sounds too awesome not to use! The warm tones, the bass pedals and, of course, the percussive beats were essential for the backbone of this track. I am proud to say that I self-faded all the percussive beats at the same time as playing in the performance.

lyrics

I turn to stone as my friends float away
I don’t recognise them anymore
Some of the things they say

Whilst I come across silent and unnoticed
It happens right in front of my own two eyes
I see them change to my surprise

Being good natured is not enough to see you through
When it’s purpose is taken away from you
I’ve dropped my confidence in the nettles
And I guess I’m gonna have to get stung to get it back
